Getting old / Growing up

So today I had a lengthy conversation with my good friend Kevin about growing up. I was curious as to when you, as a young man (I guess being 27, I’m not technically that young anymore) reach that stage in your life where you inherit the infinite source of knowledge that your father has. We both agreed that our fathers have been given some sort of know-how book for all of life’s problems. I believe the conversation began with a discussion about credit cards and how I’m constantly relying on my father’s advice on rates and financial guidance and how I have still not grasped the concept of how half of that hoopla works. Kevin agreed that he always turns to his dad for questions on similar things… fixing the dryer, loan rates, etc.

I think we came to the conclusion that our dads had access to some secret manual that prepares you for an onslaught of prying questions from your son. I’m assuming you receive said manual on your 30th birthday or whenever you have your first child… whichever comes first.

I’d like to think that I’ll turn into the knowledgeable, caring man my father is someday. But for now, I’m content with being the wide-eyed, carefree son and following hurriedly behind in my dad’s footsteps.
